Chicago on to Ohio

Today is another long driving day. We are headed through Indiana and into Ohio to Harrison Lake State Park. But first we're going to Chicago.

Our first stop is lunch with Nevin Liber at Gino's East in downtown Chicago for authentic deep dish Chicago-style pizza! Nevin is an old MacHack friend of mine. Getting through Chicago with a tent trailer was, umm, interesting. But where do we park while we have lunch? Oh, Gino's has valet parking!

You should have seen the look on the poor guys face when he saw the van and a trailer pull into the underground parking lot. But, they took care of it!

Gino's was fun. It was fun to visit with Nevin at lunch. Next time we'll have to get together with his whole family.

We left Chicago and headed for Ohio. The traffic on the interstate was heavy so we drove through downtown Chicago for several blocks.

We got on the toll way but quickly realized that we needed gas. How do you get off this thing? We managed to find our way off the toll way, but now had to find a gas station. The Nuvi directed us to our first choice, but it was gone. Bring up Google to help out, but our next choice was also a strike out; an empty lot. Finally on the third try there really was a station there.

In our first experience on the toll way, we were hit with a $7.60 toll. Yikes! We weren't to sure about these toll ways so we decided to stay off until we better understood them. Besides, State Highway 20 goes all the way through Indiana right to Harrison Lake.

We drove 20 all day. It made for an interesting drive through all the back country towns. Corn fields for as far as you can see. Part of the drive was through Amish country; Menonite churches and horse and buggy.

Before we reached Fayette, OH, we took a short detour into Michigan, just so that we could cross that state off the list.

By this time It was very late. Too late to cook dinner. We got lucky and found a restaurant that was still open after 9 pm in Fayette, OH.

It was late and dark while we set up camp. There were fireflies all over the campground. Cool! We finally had camp setup by 11, but we did have a time change in Indiana. We are now in the Eastern time zone.

We had a little more rain while we were getting to sleep. It was a long day; I don't think the rain kept anyone awake.
