Custer State Park & Legends In Light

Today we decided to take a driving tour through Custer State Park. The Needles Highway winds through the northern part of Custer State Park. The Needles are great granite uprisings. They remind me of The Pinnacles in California.

The day brought a change of weather for us. The day started out beautiful and sunny. When we got to Sylvan Lake the thunderstorm started. We had off and on rain, thunder, and lightening throughout the day.

Along the Needles highway there are several tunnels cut through the granite. After the Visitors Center, we turned to Iron Mountain Road. Along Iron Mountain Road more tunnels are cut with a special view in mind; each tunnel views onto Mt. Rushmore. Also along Iron Mountain Road are the Pigtail Bridges; a set of bridges that each curl into more than a 360ยบ circle.

We got back to the campsite with enough time to enjoy a little relaxation after dinner. The weather broke and the kids enjoyed a quick swim before we headed off to the Crazy Horse Legends in Light laser show.

The Legends in Light Show is definitely the largest laser show I have ever seen. They use lasers against the backdrop of the Crazy Horse Mountain. They use some of the largest lasers in the industry and the largest slide projectors to do a night time show. Sam was able to get some pretty good pictures during the show.

Books Finished: Mackensie finished The New Prophecy Warriors Dawn, Mom finished Little Town on The Prairie.
