Jackalopes To Mt. Rushmore

We did a short bit of sightseeing before leaving Douglas Wyoming. We visited the Douglas Railroad Interpretive Center and the home of the Jackelope. We walked through a few of the open train cars.

We left Douglas and headed up the road on our way to South Dakota. There were many trains full of nothing but coal cars. Josie counted 138 coal cars on one train! All headed north.

Wyoming soon changed to South Dakota and we started the climb into the Black Hills. We passed through several small towns and came to Crazy Horse Mountain. We spent a couple of hours touring the museum and grounds. They've been working on the mountain for 60 years and have a lot left to go.

We left Crazy Horse and found our way to Hill City and Crooked Creek Resort. We setup the trailer and had some dinner.

Carla remembered reading about the twilight program at Mount Rushmore. We found the information and left to get to Mount Rushmore before 9.

Mount Rushmore is breathtaking. It seemed like there were few people there, until we peered over the wall to the amphitheater below. There were 100's of people there to view the program!

Back to the trailer for the evening. We will be here for a few days. There is lots to see.
