Stocking Incubator Quilts

IMGP0577These Stocking Incubator Quilts made for the NICU at North Bay Hospital.  Will add a festive flair!  We did Santa Faces a couple years ago and one of the nurses who works there said how fun it was to have them.  Quilted with Christmas String of LIghts.

These little quilts are clipped to cover the incubator bassinets to protect the babies from the lights and sounds in the busy NICU.

I cut a bunch of christmas print scraps and Heat and Bond lite to 5.5 x 8 inches.  Brought these to a stamping group meeting and asked the gals if they would like to help with this project.  Maureen, Kim and I fused the Heat and Bond to the fabric, ran the fabric through the Sizzix Die Cut machine with the Stocking Die, and fused these to the blocks in just minutes.  40 of them!  That will make 10 incubator quilts.  I don't know how many bassinets are in our NICU, but I have another event at the end of the month where I will coerce ask people if they would like to help with the project.

Once the blocks are all done, I will sash and border them all together.  I figured how how to make them two quilts across with a double wide border in the middle so they are width of fabric.  I'll do the same in the top to bottom direction.  I will be able to load all the incubators as one giant quilt, then just cut through the double wide borders into individual incubators after the whole thing is quilted.  Clever, I thought!  Won't have to load 10 to 20 individual little incubator quilts!
