What a week!

IMGP9532IMGP9544Okay, okay Marilyn, I'm posting....

Saturday Feb 12th I brought home my new (to me) quilting machine,  18" throat versus the 9" I've been enjoying for two years.  In one week, I had quilted 24 Binkys!  Better than I've ever done in a MONTH before!

Helped that our field trips were rained out last week and I didn't work.  I've been getting familiar with the robotic component of my machine and putting it through its paces.  I would start it sewing and then read up more on what else it can do!  It helps that I had 15 yards of backing loading on the frame.  Loading the next quilt is sooo much quicker with the backing and batting ready to go!

Daughter #2 spent her furlough week trimming these quilts, sorting the trimmings for string quilts, and prepping binding for Rhoda our Binky Binding Beast!

This week, Qvirky (my previous machine) went home with my friend Charlotte.  So she will be quilting tops now too.  She's already finished her first Binky!

IMGP9546I had field trips all week this week so I have only quilted 3 tops this week (but I still have three days left...).  They were all much larger quilts than Binkys.  We've had sheets donated and so I had tops made to fit the sheets.  These take a bit longer to quilt and a bit longer to load on the frame as I have to load them all individually.

I've promised our Quilt Guild that I will quilt one Community Service top per month for them.  I couldn't promise before because I was already committed to quilting for Binky.  But now that I can process Binkys so much more quickly, I can commit to quilting for our guild too.  The guild has plenty of quilters who will quilt the smaller tops, but the twin to larger size tops tend to sit waiting for someone with a frame to quilt them.  This pattern was donated to our Guild by the designer Merrilyn Scott.  Daughter #1 cut it out for me as part of her Community Service work and I stitched it up in 5 hours.  So quick for a 60x90 quilt.  Quilted it up this evening!
