Bringing up the bobbin thread

A few weeks ago while visiting Marilyn's friend Jenny where we were successful at getting her started quilting with her quilting machine and frame, I asked Marilyn, "Do you always pull up your bobbin thread?"  She answered yes and I pondered why I never pull up my bobbin thread. I didn't have a good answer other than I never have. So I decided I should start pulling up my bobbin thread.  I tried pulling up my bobbin thread, but it wouldn't come up... After thinking it through, I realized, Qvirky has a thread cutter (which I use ALLL the time).  This leaves just the smallest tail of bobbin thread available.  So if I needle down, then up and  pull the machine away, the bobbin thread does not pull up to the topside of the quilt because it isn't long enough.  So the only time I can pull up the bobbin thread is when I change out the bobbin and have a long tail to pull up.  The one thing I do need to remember though is to hang on to the needle thread so it doesn't pull to the underside creating a nesty mess.
