Its been over a month since I posted. You know how I said I would not post every day and sometimes there would be long stretches of time when I wouldn't post? Does this mean I've been sitting around eating bon bons and watching soap operas? No it does not. I've been busy. Real busy. Did you know there was a tsunami in Japan? Of course you do! Our Binky Patrol group has a goal of making 1000 Quilts for Japan. In the last 6 weeks, I've hosted 3 Quilt Days, and set up the Home Ec class at our middle school to make tops for the children of Japan. I've quilted over 50 Binkys and done many other tasks involved in reaching our goal of 1000 quilts. I've been busy. Real busy. When I'm busy I don't stop to take time to post.
On the design wall this week. Super size 9 patch quilts. I brought 25 of these quilt top kits to the Home Ec class at our middle school and have received 16 back already. Go Golden West students! We even had a reporter and photographer from the local paper come in to see how the students were giving back to their community. Every single student was sewing with enthusiasm. It was so great! I've been busily getting these quilted up so the students can see the finished product of their hard work.
Also worked up these Quilt as you Go quilts on the quilting frame quilts, 6 in a day! Pieced and quilted in one run and I was able to use up a bunch of the batting that is leftover from trimming our Binkys. Love it!
I wasn't able to use up all the batting though.... We get a bunch of trimmings. We either have to piece the backings to fit the batting or trim the batting and use width of fabric for the backing. I tend to use width of fabric since our Quick Strip quilts are width of fabric.
Emily, Marilyn's daughter borrowed Qvirky for a couple of days to quilt up her Turtle Quilt entry for the Dixon May Fair. Too cute!
Quilt Day 9 - another successful day. Over 20 people came through the door. Our accomplishments for the day? 10 tops quilted by Marilyn, 9 quilts bound by Rhoda, 22 Quick Strip quilts cut with the studio cutter, 43 Supersize 9 patch kits cut, 26 tops completed, 150 million yards of binding prepped (okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but its not too far off...), over 200 yards of donated fabric folded and sorted (this is not an exaggeration!), 30 quilted tops trimmed to be ready for binding. My count may be a bit low on any of these items. Wewere so busy going so manydifferent directions that I didn't keep real good count.
Here is a pic of my new machine, Qvirky (new to me, 3 months with me now). I just absolutely love it! Can you see the empty spools on the windowsill? I mentioned something about thread to my mom and she donated all her embroidery thread to the Binky project. I've been blowing right through it and loving working with it. Qvirky was down for a week, but the folks at Tin LIzzie were awesome getting me back up and running.
Yup, I've been busy....!
