Ironrite Mangle

IMGP8770This is my favorite iron!  I was re-introduced to the Ironrite Mangle at Thanksgiving two years ago.  I had brought the Binky project home to my mom's for the holidays and the whole family was helping to make quilts for Binky Patrol.  My sister brought her mangle over for the ironing.  I didn't pay much attention to it then.  My mom, my sister, and my brother-in-law worked the mangle, keeping our strips pressed as we sewed quilts together. My sister could see there was still work to be done after we were done with our holiday visit.  She asked if I wanted to bring it home with me.  Okay... Then, I worked with it at my house and memories started creeping into my consciousness.  My sister's mangle is the enamel covered metal model and when you close the lid it makes this sort of 'pong' noise.  I remembered that noise from.... When the mangle is running, it goes 'tick, tick, tick'.   I remembered that noise from.... When I went online to do some research about the mangle, the oval logo from the back of the accompanying chair pops up on the screen and I REMEMBER THAT LOGO from when I was about knee-high to a grasshopper.  Turns out my mother had a mangle when I was little.  The logo on the back of the chair would have been just at eye level for me!

IMGP8772This thing is an ironing beast!  It will iron up backings, strip quilting, and binding lickety-split!  If you need steam, you just spray with a misting bottle.  Story is my two older sisters would share the ironing job.  One would spray the fabric and the other would operate the mangle.  I rarely use water.  The mangle gets hot!  There are temp settings from Wool down to Rayon.  It takes time to heat up the iron and I do tend to save my mangling for times other than noon-6pm since we are on a net meter and electricity is more expensive between noon and 6pm.  The lights in the room dim when I turn on the mangle, so I know the mangle is warmed up when the lights come back up again.

There is a website with the original promotional videos for the mangle, part one and part two, and information for maintaining my mangle.  There are people dedicated to preserving the mangle history.  Someone even sent me the original manuals for my mangle.  I'm so glad to have this in my home.  I went searching on-line to find my very own and my sister went to check it out for me.  It was in excellent condition and my sister and brother-in-law did the last bits of clean up and made a new cover for it.  We decided that my husband needed to get it for me for Christmas two years ago.  It was the easiest shopping my husband has ever done for me!  I returned my sister's to her and brought home my own.  IMGP3241

But I didn't open it until Christmas.
